Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you currently a fully competent mainline train driver looking for an opportunity to grow and learn with a company that supports and encourages progession?   If so, look no further! GB Railfreight are looking to further grow our Crewe depot to help carry out our best-in-class services in the area. Having recently hired almost a dozen drivers for the depot we are still on the lookout for more professional drives who would be proud to join the blue team and lead the freight rail revolution and partake in the exciting work we have, whether current or in the pipeline.  As a Crewe based driver you would mainly drive class 66 diesel locomotives across various routes in England. The work is predominately aggregates work between the Peak Forest and Midlands so you would get to see some pretty great sights on route! In addition you would also get involved with some intermodal and Network Rail work, so no week would be the same!   You would be empowered to take responsibility for the delivery of the key activities on the front line, to always be conscious of, and operate with, the highest regard to safety and to challenge unsafe behaviours at all times.   As a train driver with GB Railfreight you are also the face of the business and are encouraged to build good relationships with customers at our customer sites and terminals, and provide good customer service regardless of the situation. A sense of humour helps, along with a certain level of patience!

Success wears blue. Is it time to change that shirt and join the blue team?   GB Railfreight is ambitious and driven. Currently growing at a rate which makes even the casual observer’s head spin and winning new work of an increased variety – from freight to MPV work and our ever growing rail services work.   This is where you come in. We want you to work with us during these exciting times and be a part of the GB Railfreight success story in the East Midlands/Toton area.   We offer you an environment that never stands still and pursues growth with its never-ending possibilities, whether for training, new traction and route knowledge, progression or just the chance to earn a good living doing something you enjoy.  When the country locked down due to covid, it was the freight industry that was given Key Worker Status. Where passenger services reduced, freight flows were given priority, allowing for our drivers (Train Managers) to shine and keep the country moving behind the scenes.   Specifically, as a Toton (East Midlands) based train driver with GB Railfreight you will have the chance to drive class 66 diesel locomotives and take charge of our freight services in the area, which include aggregates, network rail possession and bulk ballast work. You would also be able to build your route card to cover various parts of the country, from London to Doncaster and everywhere in-between. No week will be the same and you will be able to work a variety of shifts over an average 34.5-hour, 4 day week. Freight never sleeps and a lot of the work is done on nights so you will get to enjoy countless of peaceful sunrises in the driving cab. Bonus? You’ll get to avoid the dreaded rush hour!   So, if you are a passenger driver who always wanted to try freight, here’s your opportunity. If you are a freight driver already, well, why not join the winning team and lead in the railfreight revolution. Help us take lorries off the road, champion greener innovative solutions and keep our shops stocked up

Have you always dreamed of becoming a train driver?  Does the thought of an office job bore you to tears? Prefer the unpredictability of a shift based, hands on role?    If so, we may have an opportunity for you.   GB Railfreight are looking for Trainee Train Drivers to be based out of our West Midlands (Birmingham) depot to join our growing team and deliver core business services.    As a Trainee Train Driver we would provide you with full training, consisting of: - 12 weeks classroom training (covering all the relevant rules, regulations, signalling, locomotive information) - At least 225 hours of 'handling' hours which means driving under the supervision of a mentor (including some simulator driving) The classroom training will take place at our brand new Training school in Peterborough, and you would be expected to not take any annual leave for the duration of the classroom training to ensure you don't miss out on any vital elements of the training.   The classroom training can be intense and a lot to take in so it is essential you are comfortable with learning in a classroom setting.    The role of a train driver on freight, whilst a very popular career choice, comes with its challenges, from an unpredictable shift pattern, where you can be rostered to work any times and have limited visibility what you are going to be doing week by week, to working in all weathers outside, regardless of rain, snow or record breaking wind.   As a train driver you will often be doing long, 12 hour shifts, most of it on your own, so you need to be comfortable in your own company.

Rail Freight did not stop. Running freight on the railway played a huge part in ensuring the country stayed moving behind the scenes, with the industry being given Key Worker Status. Whilst there was a downturn in passenger trains this allowed more freight flows onto the railway, creating new opportunities nationwide, and should you decide to join us you will never be bored with what is on offer.   In return, as a company we can offer you stability and progression, having grown our workforce by 21% between 2017 and 2020 and supporting progression from within whenever possible. As a train driver with GB Railfreight you will have the chance to drive diesel locomotives (66s mainly) based from the West Midlands (Birmingham) and take charge of our freight services in the area, which includes SCO work and intermodal traffic. Staff in the West Midlands are and will also be heavily involved in the HS2 project. If you are happy to work a variety of shifts, including nights, and are safety conscious, we are keen to hear from you!   The role of train manager is critical to ensure GBRf provide our customers with a best in class service at all times. Our Train Managers are empowered to take responsibility for the delivery of the key activities on the front line. As a Train Manager, you will join our team and support GBRf in our commitment to deliver a safe, reliable and best in class freight/passenger service to our customers. In this role you will liaise with Assistant Train Managers, Signallers and Contractors to ensure customer requirements are met and trains arrive on time.
