Overview

We are looking to recruit for Rail Operators in Dagenham. The role will be contracted to 25 hours per week completed over a 5 days per week.

 

Role Overview

 

Responsible for the safe preparation of rail freight services as well as the operation of a variety of traction at off-network marshalling yards.

 

Liaising with GB Railfreight Train Managers (Drivers), signallers and customers, you will ensure client requirements are met and trains are prepared, safely, efficiently and on time.

 

Keeping abreast of rule updates and safe systems of works for work locations. Represent the company by demonstrating excellent customer service to understand the requirements of the customer. Working safely and efficiently with a willingness to challenge/report any safety concerns.

 

Salary: £25,173 for 25 hours per week (pro rata, FTE of £38,263)

 

Training typically lasts between 9 and 12 weeks, the first 5 of which are classroom based, The classroom based training will be held in Peterborough, lodging will likely be required (Monday to Friday) for the duration of classroom training.  Accomdation and 

travel is provided during the initial classroom training. For the duration of training (classroom and practical) the successful candidates will be contracted to work 38 hours per week and awarded a training salary of £22,678 per annum.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Safe delivery of GB Railfreight services.
  • Thorough preparation of trains entering the rail network.
  • Detailed examinations of locomotives, wagons, and containers to confirm they are fit for purpose.
  • Movement of trains as on private infrastructure.
  • Carry out coupling / uncoupling of rail vehicles to / from the locomotives and or each other as required.
  • Travel within nominated region and other locations as required.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

 

  • Full UK Manual drivers’ licence
  • Lone working experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven flexible approach to work.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Railway operations.
  • GCSE English & Maths
  • Experience of working in a safety critical role.
  • Proven ability to work alone and to own initiative.

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong concentration and awareness skills.
  • Able to work alone to complete duties but also an excellent team player.
