We are looking to recruit for Rail Operators in Dagenham. The role will be contracted to 25 hours per week completed over a 5 days per week.
Role Overview
Responsible for the safe preparation of rail freight services as well as the operation of a variety of traction at off-network marshalling yards.
Liaising with GB Railfreight Train Managers (Drivers), signallers and customers, you will ensure client requirements are met and trains are prepared, safely, efficiently and on time.
Keeping abreast of rule updates and safe systems of works for work locations. Represent the company by demonstrating excellent customer service to understand the requirements of the customer. Working safely and efficiently with a willingness to challenge/report any safety concerns.
Salary: £24,559 for 25 hours per week (pro rata, FTE of £37,330)
Training typically lasts between 9 and 12 weeks, the first 5 of which are classroom based, The classroom based training will be held in Peterborough, lodging will likely be required (Monday to Friday) for the duration of classroom training. Accomdation and
travel is provided during the initial classroom training. For the duration of training (classroom and practical) the successful candidates will be contracted to work 38 hours per week and awarded a training salary of £21,200 per annum.

We are looking for applications from qualified Freight Train Drivers for our Motherwell depot.
Working an annual average 34.5 hour week over 4 days, our Train Managers (Drivers) are awarded a base salary of £66,369.
Role Overview
Operation of a variety of traction locomotives on both Network Rail and private infrastructure.
Train Managers require the upmost consideration to safety, adhering to all GB Railfreight, Network Rail and wider industry legislation.
Strong emphasis on customer service, communication and collaborative working with Rail Operators, Signallers and customers to ensure day-to-day operations run safely and efficiently.
Main Responsibilities
- Operate locomotives, both light engines and freight trains with safety at the forefront of all actions, utilising risk triggered commentary as a rule.
- Comply with all rules and instructions, undergoing proficiency assessments to maintain competence.
- Complete route and traction training, maintaining competence as required.
- Locate and where possible rectify faults by following the correct reporting procedures.
- Represent the company to our customers, maintaining a professional outlook in both behaviour and appearance.
- Read and fully understand all notices and amendments affecting the locomotive, train or route the Train Manager is working.
- Communicate issues pro-actively and effectively with GB Railfreight controllers, line managers, signallers and customer representatives.
- Ensure safety of ones self and all others working in and around the Railway by remaining focused, vigilant and taking the correct measures to prepare for duty.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Train Driver Competence
- Freight Train experience, especially class 66 locomotive competence.
- European Train Driving License holder.
- Acceptable Safety Record
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of rail industry rules and regulations.
- A full, manual UK drivers licence.
- Must live within 45 minutes commute of the depot.
Desirable
- Comfortable using iPAD and digital technologies.
- Mentor experience
- Varied route knowledge.
- Rail Operator competence.
